The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst
Hello, story lovers — Wednesday here, reporting from my favorite sunny windowsill (the one that smells faintly of bergamot and adventure).
This week, I’ve been utterly enchanted by The Spellshop — a seaside cozy fantasy that’s equal parts sugar, secrets, and quiet rebellion.
Our heroine, Kiela, used to be a librarian in the capital — until the world quite literally went up in flames. With her trusty (and delightfully snarky) plant companion, Caz, she escapes with an armful of forbidden magical books and heads home to her sleepy island village. There, she opens a jam shop — yes, jam! — using her late parents’ cookbook to make something sweet out of her not-so-sweet circumstances.
But between you and me (and the teapot), she’s stirring up more than fruit and sugar. Behind the shop, in a secret little backroom, Kiela begins to use those hidden spellbooks to quietly restore her homeland — one whispered enchantment at a time.
Soon, her cozy shop becomes a haven for new friends, a found family, and a rather delightful coven. It’s a story about courage in soft forms: kindness, creativity, and a little bit of jam-fueled mischief.
✨ Expect:
🌿 A charming plant companion with more attitude than a cat (and that’s saying something)
🍓 Secret spells and jars of magic jam
💫 Found family, seaside charm, and second chances
📖 The reminder that even small acts can change the world
If you like your magic quiet, your romance tender, and your books full of heart — The Spellshop is your next read.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in the kitchen… testing whether my catnip jam idea might count as spellwork. For science, of course.
