When Wednesday Taught Me to Listen

“Listening,” Wednesday said, her tail twitching in that superior way cats do, “is the other form of reading, darling.”

At first, I was scandalized. Me — Lady Mirabella Faebles, purveyor of tomes, hostess of tales, eternal defender of the printed page — being told that listening counts as reading? Preposterous.

But then she perched upon my open novel (as she does), pressed play on her little glowing device, and the voice of a storyteller filled the air — rich, warm, and haunting. And I understood.

Audiobooks, it seems, are stories reborn in their oldest form: the spoken word. Long before ink and parchment, there were firesides and voices — tales shared aloud that wrapped around hearts like ribbons of smoke.

“See?” Wednesday purred. “Now you can fold laundry, garden, or sip tea while still turning pages — just… with your ears.”

She wasn’t wrong (a rare admission I loathe to make).

Through Libro.fm, I’ve discovered an entirely new way to experience stories — and, much to Wednesday’s delight, it’s every bit as magical as I once claimed only books could be.

Why I’m Now a Listener, Too

  • Accessibility & Comfort - For those whose eyes grow tired or whose days overflow, audiobooks keep the magic going. They invite the story in, wherever you are.

  • Support for Local Bookshops - Each purchase through Libro.fm supports independent shops like Faebles Tomes & Teas — helping keep our shelves full, our lights glowing, and our stories alive.

  • Curated by Humans, Not Algorithms - Real booksellers — kindred spirits who love stories as much as we do — craft the recommendations, not machines.

  • Freedom to Truly Own Your Stories - Every audiobook you buy is yours forever — DRM-free and ready to follow you anywhere, from the kettle to the carriage.

  • A Purpose-Driven Company - Libro.fm is a Social Purpose Corporation, choosing people and passion over profit — a business model after my own heart.

  • Peace of Mind & Restful Evenings - Listening to stories can quiet the mind and soothe the spirit. Psychology Today notes that hearing another’s voice can interrupt anxious thoughts and ease restless minds. Personally, I often end my evenings with a favorite story playing softly as I drift into sleep. And when I wake in the quiet hours, I can simply press play and let the words carry me gently back to dream.

So yes, I confess — I’ve been converted. I still adore the rustle of pages and the scent of ink, but now, when I travel through the countryside in the Faebles Carriage, you might just catch me listening to a gothic tale whispered through my headphones… while Wednesday smugly naps nearby.
