As we welcome a new month of stories and steeped adventures, we’re looking back at our June book club selection: The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes. Set in the hills of Depression-era Kentucky, this moving tale of friendship, freedom, and fearless women sparked thoughtful discussion and more than a few surprises during our first-ever virtual club meeting.
🫖 What We Thought
During last night’s gathering, members gave the book an average rating of 3.8 out of 5. While some found the beginning a little slow to unfold, many agreed it became an immersive page-turner with rich themes and emotional depth.
One of the most fascinating parts of our discussion centered around the McCullough daughters and what really happened in the end. Two competing theories sparked debate:
💡 One group believed Clem McCullough may have been secretly reading the very books he disapproved of — a quiet rebellion hidden in plain sight.
🧐 Others felt Verna’s testimony was fabricated to protect Margery, painting her as both clever and self-sacrificing in her pursuit of justice.
We’d love to hear what you thought — if you missed the meeting, feel free to drop your perspective in the group comments!
🎉 Bookish Trivia + a Winner!
We closed out the night with a fast-paced round of book trivia, and it got delightfully competitive!
🥇 Elizabeth took the top spot with 11 points, just edging out Amy and Lindsey with 8 each. For her win, Elizabeth is receiving a Blind Date with a Book, shipping out today! 💌📦
